DETAILS: I first saw this Bible in 1996 and thought it was ONE OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE BOOKS I HAD EVER SEEN. The publisher describes this Bible as "The most beautiful family heirloom Bible of modern times..." and I have no doubt that it is. This is a massive book with 700 color illustrations. This volume makes use of all the major illustrations from the Vatican Library's Urbino Bible which was completed in 1478, as well as from 30 other manuscript volumes of the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Countless other artistic details such as decorative borders and illuminated and historiated initial capitals from the Urbino Bible were used as well. This volume has been created with specially made acid-free archival paper. Standard four-color printing cannot achieve the shimmering gold beauty of this six-color printing process which included specially commissioned formulations of metallic-gold ink applied to the printed pages in details hand-silhouetted from the original gold. The Bible and slip-case are bound in a rich maroon cloth (silk?) embossed with gold title and decorations. Color separations, printing and binding were done in Milan, Italy. This is the New Revised Standard Version and includes the 12 Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books accepted by the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches as well as the additional six books accepted by various Orthodox churches. Original publisher's price was $425.00. This book is now out-of-print and I expect it will be a long time till we see a book this beautiful in print again.
